a day in the life: thrifting, styling and photo editing

What you choose to do with your precious days off really reflect the person you are, don't they? Yesterday, I went out thrifting. There is nothing like poking around in a dusty shop full of vintage loveliness to make my heart sing! I haven't been out in ages, and I found a bunch of small things for the house as well as some pieces for a friend who is moving and needs a bit of staging done prior to listing her home.

Our bedroom is in flux mode right now - on the weekend we moved our bed frame to the guest room, because I am going to make a new upholstered version - pics will follow :) I'm planning a to incorperate "dressing cabinet", to store and display my favourite accessories, and so need a few bits for jewelry display. Enter this charming little tiered - tray brass and laquer number - perfect for the jewelry I'm wearing everyday. As you can see, it's already settled into it's new home...

I bought it, brought it home, and immediately cleaned it, styled up this little display and took photos!
Please tell me I'm not the only one :)  x am

Giveaway! Miss Fluff Jewelry

Hello lovelies! I have recently become acquainted with the super-sweet and very talented Sare, the artisan behind the Etsy shop Miss Fluff. Sare's pieces are made from hand-cut leather and are inspired by nature. The results are one-of-a-kind - exactly the reason we shop on Etsy, right? Who wants to wear what everyone else is?!!  The best part is Sare has generously offered to give one of her bracelets to one of you!

So, wondering which piece could adorn your wrist shortly? Sare has offered one of you lucky ladies her striking Graphic Art Deco bracelet, which, btw, is also vegan-friendly, just in case you are so inclined :) It has very cool tribal feel, which is so fresh right now. I would wear this with all the pretty pastels of this season, nothing like a graphic black accessory to ensure things don't become TOO eighties!

To enter, be a follower of this blog and simply visit the Miss Fluff shop on Etsy, then come back here and leave a comment about your favourite piece from the shop.

For additional entries, you can follow Miss Fluff on twitter @MissFluff_ , tweet about the giveaway,
or like Miss Fluff Jewelry on Facebook. Then come back and leave an additional comment to let me know!

I'll announce the (randomly chosen) winner next thursday - good luck!

what are you wishing for?

Sometimes when I ignore a question or an issue around here D emails it to me...

is that weird?!

It's like, hey, would you PUH-Lease get on this!

So today I received an official request for Christmas gift ideas.

You'd think after 15 years he'd know it's all about art and jewelry!

I sent him back three links.

and this.

a girl can dream...

what are you wishing for?

DIY: jewelry as art

Since we're working on the eldest darlings room right now,
and she fancies herself something of a fashionista,
we were desperate for jewelry and accessories storage.

She really wanted to have her necklaces out on display,
and so the search began for a pretty way to style them up...

All in a row, neat and tidy.

or tucked into frames....

amongst gallery wall of fanciful hooks and baubles...

or hung on almost invisible hooks and nails,
necklaces cascading grandly down the wall....

Isn't that a dreamy vanity?

Although we both loved the idea of the necklaces being the focus,
Tash wanted them hung on hooks that had a little personality as well.

She wanted something unique, that no one else would have,
(who does she take after?!!)
and so we decided to head to the re-store,
to pick up an odd assortment on mis-matched hooks and paint them white.
That way they would add interest, but still blend in with her new white walls.

Then we stopped by homesense :) to source something for a client,
and voila -

there it was..

In all it's bad burnished gold beauty!

A metal tree sculpture, the perfect size for her wall,
with umpteen "hooks".

after a coat of white spray paint we had our solution,
for a whopping total of $20.00!

Styled up by Miss N herself :)

What do you think?

Works perfectly, right?

Simple, organic but still modern,
and the necklaces are the stars.

We've just got to get the window's and floor dressed, and I'll show you the rest -

happy tuesday - x

Box Braid Leather Bracelet DIY

found these on the blog of one of my new favourite artists, Nicole Cohen - Sketch 42.

Her paintings are a celebration of hue,
so no surprise she's adorning her wrists with these luscious things:

it's quite a simple DIY, and since we have heaps of leather cord (don't know why!)
the darlings and I are going to work some up this rainy afternoon -
thought you may like to, as well - x

Spring Cool: DIY Bracelet

If you like these as much as I do...

then you'll love this simple DIY...

the girlies and I will be making these shortly -
perfect poolside activity!
