pinteresting: art over windows

I find so many fabulous bits of creativity via pinterest, and some are really due more than a repin.
Hence the new feature, "pinteresting", where I invite your opinions about whatever wonderful thing made me sit up and take notice each week....


So. let's get on with it, shall we? This weeks brilliance...


We've seen art layered over bookcases, but how about this: art over windows.

It seems mad, but if you think about it, especially in a room like the one below, 

windows are often abundant and wall space is not. 

Why not break up that huge expanse of glass with a little eye candy?

spring fever: steel windows

I hope you'll indulge me a few posts about spring, because I've got the fever :) Anyone else dying to get outside and clean all the windows? Something about spring and getting the maximum sunshine into this house...
This has led to a "rooms with a view" board on pinterest, with swoon-worthy shots like this...

It may skew toward steel windows, lol. I love them. As in, if I ever win the lottery I will be immediately ripping out every single builders-grade monstrosity we have here! How about steel windows as an interior wall? Genius, right? Are any of you lucky enough to have an expanse of these beauties in your space? x am

yay or nay: pinterest

Oh, how it pains me to write this post. I've seen this going around pinterest the last little bit, but was ignoring it, because I didn't want my blissful pinterest addiction to come to a halt. Have you read the article this links to? It makes you take a closer look at the policies we all skimmed over in 2.3 seconds flat while gleefully rubbing our hands together that we were onboard this amazing site, with it's plethora of jaw-dropping images, and links to everything that we need to know about RIGHT THIS SECOND :)

Here are the highlights of the article....

Point of contention No. 1 -  Pinterest reserves the right to use every image we upload of our own in ANY WAY they please. That once we upload an image, it becomes their property. Not cool.

Point of contention No. 2 - We, the users, are legally responsible should someone sue interest over their images being used without their permission. That means while we may be pinning things to try and give an artist/blogger/designer exposure, or at the very least, appreciation - if they decide we have violated their rights by pinning the image WE, not pinterest are liable for damages.

I'm very sad to say that if the pinterest-powers-that-be don't re-think this, I will be one of the deserters - no amount of eye candy is worth being sued over. That's a bit of a bummer, because after pinterest I don't know if I can go back to google images, sorting throughout three thousand crappola photos trying to find just one that is blog-worthy.... for example, a wallpaper search on both....

Anyhow, some food for thought, right?  Thought you may want to check it out, lovelies...

How was your weekend?

I was bit under the weather this weekend, so not much got accomplished around here - 

did manage to squeeze in a wee bit of time for pinterest, somehow - 

funny how that happens, lol...

When I saw this kitchen pinned over the weekend my jaw dropped.

Barrel-vaulted brick ceiling.

Exquisite painted timber floor.

Open shelving + lattice cabinetry.

Art + a few hits of playful colour.

Spaces like this make me want to ditch this place and move into a century home stat.

A little digging, and found the rest of this home via apartment therapy and kikette interiors.

It has a very consistent look.

The white walls continue throughout, as do those floors.

The decor is clean neutrals, again with the pops of colour place sparingly.

There was one detail that I absolutely loved.

Look at the way they've lit their artwork.

Wall-mounted reading/work lights that not only light up these pieces in the evenings, 

but also to frame the art and draw the eye in the daylight.

They become part of the composition.

I've never been a huge fan of those unappealing mini lights tucked in over the top of the frame -

they aspire to be invisible but just end up a visual distraction -

but these are a different story, yes?

The Difference

Some people spread joy.

Real true joy.

I hear from you every time I post.

Yesterday I got a comment from Mr Goodwill Hunting.

One of my diy heros!

He complimented a diy I did - WHA?? Did that actually happen?

Thank you for making my day :)

Today, however, I had to deal with an issue that has been dragged on for far to long,

and it was finally resolved, but not without me losing my cool.

I'm trying very hard not to be bitter, because

and I've learned

My father worked at his grocery store seven days a week his entire life

(giving away as much food to people who needed it as he sold, 

money was really never high up on the priority list).

I respect him so much for the way he has lived his life, 

and he taught us to

and that

But most of all, really, who can put energy into holding a grudge when the world is so full of this

Are you on pinterest yet?

I don't know about you, but I'm constantly pulling images from around the net

 and trying to sort them into folders in iphoto...

some are for future posts,

but most get filed to the darkest corners of the computer and forgotten.

Enter pinterest.

Along with being able to pin the things that tickle the eyes

you get to browse through other peoples collections, 

and there is SO much inspiration!
